Holiday Closings

Steuben County Transit will be closed on the following holidays with no service operated on these days :

  • New Years Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

Limited Holiday Closings

Chemung County Transit will provide limited transit service on the following holidays:

  • Easter Sunday
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day

Route Deviation/Demand Response Service Program

Steuben County Transit offers curbside pick-up service through its Route Deviation/Demand Response Service Program.If you are a person living within ¾ of a mile of a bus route, you may qualify for curbside service. The fare for Route Deviation is double the regular fixed route fare and is posted in the Fare section of the web-site. Each route deviation will cost double the regular fixed route fare.

 

Trip Scheduling for Route Deviation

To schedule a Route Deviation trip, call our Customer Service Department at 1-800-445-4423 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. For next day service, your request must be made by 5:00 p.m. the previous day.

Route and Stop Announcements

The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 ADA requires the announcement of all time points and transfer points. Steuben County Transit Bus Operators will announce approximately 1/2 block in advance all such time points and/or transfer points listed on all public schedules. Where more than one route serves the same stop, an announcement of that route by the Bus Operator will be made before the bus departs such point.

Disabled/Senior Medicare Fare Programs

Riders who have a disability, who are 60 years of age or older (Senior Citizen), or who hold a Medicare card, can ride for half the regular fare on regular route service and/or on Route Deviation/Demand Response Service. Disabled Riders: To ride for half the regular fare, a Half Fare I.D. card is required. To acquire a Half Fare I.D. card, a note from a qualified health care physician stating your disability must be obtained. A Half Fare I.D. card can be purchased at the Chemung County Transit office, 1201 Clemens Center Parkway , Elmira , NY . The cost of the I.D. is $2.00. Senior Citizens: A picture I.D. card (Drivers License or other picture I.D. with proof of age) or a Gold Card is required each time you board. On Monday's, Senior Citizens ride free. Medicare: Persons on Medicare must show their Medicare card each time you board.

Service Appeals

If your request for Route Deviation service is denied, you may appeal the denial by registering a complaint with Steuben County Transit. Call 1-800-445-4423 or go on line to www.chemungcountytransit.com to register your complaint .

Title VI Civil Rights

Suggestions or Complaints/Title VI Civil Rights Act – Suggestions or complaints about Steuben Transit should be directed to customer service department at (607) 734-5211 or online at ridectran.com. Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin in programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance.  The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 prohibits discrimination and ensures equal opportunity for persons with disabilities in employment, State and local government services, public accommodations, commercial facilities, and transportation.  The Federal Transit Administration requires Steuben Transit to use nondiscriminatory practices in bus service. Title VI/ADA complaints should be directed to the Steuben County Planning Director Chris Brewer at 607-664-2245. Also, you have the right to file your Title VI or ADA complaint directly with the Federal Transit Administration at: USDOT Federal Transit Administration, Region II, Regional Civil Rights Officer, One Bowling Green, Room 429, New York, NY 1004-1415.
